Federal Aviation Administration

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is responsible for the safety of civil aviation. The Federal Aviation Act of 1958 created the agency under the name Federal Aviation Agency. The FAA adopted their present name in 1967 when we became a part of the Department of Transportation. The FAA's major roles include: Regulating civil aviation to promote safety; Encouraging and developing civil aeronautics, including new aviation technology; Developing and operating a system of air traffic control and navigation for both civil and military aircraft; Researching and developing the National Airspace System and civil aeronautics; Developing and carrying out programs to control aircraft noise and other environmental effects of civil aviation; and Regulating U.S. commercial space transportation.

Grand Canyon National Park (U.S. Park Service)

Although first afforded Federal protection in 1893 as a Forest Reserve and later as a National Monument, Grand Canyon did not achieve National Park status until 1919, three years after the creation of the National Park Service. Today Grand Canyon National Park receives close to five million visitors each year - a far cry from the annual visitation of 44,173 which the park received in 1919.

McCarran International Airport is part of the Clark County Airport System, which owns and operates five airports, including four general aviation facilities: North Las Vegas Airport, Henderson Executive Airport, Jean Sport Aviation Center, and Overton/Perkins Field.
